Job title: Registered Nurse Midwife

Duty Station: Bobete Health Centre, Thaba-Tseka

Reporting to: Nurse in Charge

Job Profile:

Responsibilities include patient/client nursing care, organization, coordination, and supervision of staff under her/him in a health center and at the community level. Over and above these responsibilities, a Registered Nurse Midwife carries out specialized nursing services.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Patient /Client nursing care
  • Provides planned nursing care actions to clients /patients for their recovery.
  • Monitors and evaluates planned care and process of recovery for re-planning and continuity of care.
  • Provides counseling services to both clients and their relatives to cope with the situation.
  • Monitors and evaluates clients process of recovery for replanning and continuity of nursing care.
  • Refers complicated patients and clients to Nurse Clinician / Nurse in charge and or hospital for further management and support.
  • Prepares and submits Weekly, Monthly Quarterly, and Annual facility reports.
  • Organization of nursing services within the Health Center
  • Provides orientation to staff under her/his supervision on policies, protocols, and /or guidelines for proper taking off of work in the health center.
  • Participates in clinical teaching of nursing students in order to correlate theory with practice.
  • Organizes for taking of specimens to the laboratory and collection of results for review and maintenance of patient management.
  • Keeps Health Center inventory.
  • Co-ordination of nursing services with other health services
  • Ensure availability of drugs and supplies at all times for patient treatment and management.
  • Ensures availability of food for maternal waiting homes at all times.
  • Keep inventory of Hygiene kits and starter packs.
  • Documents patients’ information for communication with other healthcare providers.
  • Communicates with patients’ relatives and other relevant agencies (e.g. Community Leaders, Traditional and Spiritual Healers, Faith Based Organizations, Community health workers) and departments to assist patients in the process of recovery.
  • Supervision
  • Supervises the Health Center staff under her/him in the implementation of patient care for support and motivation.
  • Assesses cleanliness of the Health Center for prevention and control of infection.
  • Appraises Health Center staff under her/him for appropriate interventions in the care of patients/clients.
  • Consults with the Nurse Clinician/ Nurse in charge on the implementation of patients’ prescriptions for appropriate management of patients.
  • Monitors and Supervises women in the maternal waiting homes
  • Supervises and supports MMRPAs, and TB HIV village health workers’ Monthly meetings.
  • Provision of Special Nursing ServicesPrimary Health Care Services
  • Provides curative services for clients’ management and referral.
  • Follows up with the community health workers for support and motivation.
  • Supports and conducts Community gatherings with Village health workers for demand creation.
  • Participates in community development activities for the promotion of health.
  • Conducts follow-up visits for chronically ill patients for compliance and continuity of care.
  • Refers patients/clients to other health professionals as per assessment.
  • Trains and supervises Community Health Workers in their roles.
  • Performs all sexual and reproductive health services.
  • Implements intervention to reduce the spread of disease/outbreaks in the communities.
  • Implements set protocols and guidelines for quality nursing services.
  • Conducts uncomplicated deliveries.
  • Performs Ante, Intra, and Post Natal Care for all women in the Health Centre.
  • Keeps records for proper management and follow-up of clients.
  • Conducts immunizations services.
  • Attends to the needs of a neonate for its well-being.
  • Conducts outreach services
  • Minimum Requirements

    • Minimum of Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery
    • or more years working experience in related field.
    • Valid licence with Nursing Council
    • Willingness to stay in remote mountain clinics.
    • Strong collaboration and team work skills.
    • Fluent in English and Sesotho, verbally and written.
