Reporting to the Program Officer, the Champion will be responsible for providing education and psychosocial support to men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender persons (TGs) in Mohlakeng/Makhoarane/Ratau/Qiloane Council to promote change in knowledge, attitudes and, beliefs, and to support HIV risk reduction behaviours at the individual levels. The incumbent will also be responsible for mobilizing, and reaching both visible and hidden MSM and TGs, and ensure that they are linked to comprehensive HIV prevention, care and treatment services. The incumbent will also support effective client referrals, peer navigation and linkages to clinical and biomedical services that are friendly to MSM and TGs in the Mohlakeng/Makhoarane/Ratau/Qiloane Council
• Carry out client mobilization activities to create demand and uptake of HIV prevention services among MSM and TGs, including uptake of HIV testing services
• Reach sub-groups of MSM and TGs, both visible and hidden, including participation in the implementation of Enhanced Peer Outreach approach (EPOA) campaigns, virtual outreaches, and other program strategies
• Carry out day to day group and individual educational behaviour change communication (SBCC) and interpersonal communication (IPC) sessions at the drop-in-centre and/or outreach sites with MSM and TGs in Maseru district in Mohlakeng/Makhoarane/Ratau/Qiloane council in line with the program manuals and guidelines
• Distribute condoms, lubricants, and information, education and communication (IEC) materials to MSM and TGs during education sessions at the drop-in-centre and/or in the hotspots, in line with the program guidelines
• Conduct one-on-one peer navigation activities for all MSM and TGs reached, and support referrals and linkage to care, including supporting physical accompaniments as necessary;
• Carry out periodic and structured client follow-ups for MSM and TGs linked for further care in line with program guidelines, and document results for the follow-ups for each client.
• Provide psychosocial support to clients living with, and/or affected by HIV and support establishment and management of support groups among clients
• Complete all the data collection tools and all relevant registers to report data on services provided to clients
• Undertake any work assigned by the supervisor and senior management
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Must have non-judgmental, trustworthy and empathetic personality
• Must be an open member of the LGBTI community
• Should be comfortable discussing issues of HIV/AIDS, sexuality, reproductive health as well as sexual orientation and identities
• Must have basic computer skills including use of Microsoft applications (Ms. Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and days of the week, including weekends
• Ability to travel as and when required, and to work in challenging environments
• A minimum of a senior certificate (i.e. COSC or equivalent)
• Must have a minimum of one (1) year of work experience in HIV prevention programs or related work. Prior training as a peer educator for key populations will be an added advantage.
Time Commitment: Six months with flexible hours
